Maafushi Island, Maldives Travel Guide 2025

Maafushi Island is located just 27 kilometers away from the capital city, Male. It is one of the largest and famous local islands to explore in the Maldives. 

Maafushi Island does not allow any cars on the island, so the only mode of transportation option you have on the island is your legs. But worry not, as the island is just 1 kilometer by 200 meters wide, which is accessible on foot. 

We recommend that you stay on Maafushi Island for 2-3 days to fully experience the charm of this island. 

The best way to reach Maafushi Island from Male is to take a public ferry ride, which runs twice a day on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. The ride takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the island. Another option is private speedboats, which are arranged by hotels or resorts. 

Maafushi local island does not sell alcohol in its cafes and restaurants. However, there are some offshore boats, like floating bars, which offer drinks legally.
