1. Vamus Buses: The primary intercity bus network in the Algarve is operated by Vamus, connecting all major towns from Vila Real de Santo António in the east to Lagos in the west. Buses are identifiable by their white, orange and green design and do not carry route numbers, so you have to check the destination display on the front of the bus. Most buses run from 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with reduced services on weekends and holidays. 

2. Trains: Comboios de Portugal (CP) operates regional trains along the coast from Vila Real de Santo António to Lagos, passing through Olhão, Faro, Loulé, Albufeira, and Portimão. Train stations are not always located in city centers like Albufeira and Loulé stations are several kilometers outside town. 

3. Car Rental: Renting a car provides the most flexibility for exploring the Algarve, particularly for accessing secluded beaches, rural villages, and inland areas with limited public transport. Faro Airport has numerous rental companies with competitive prices outside high season. Rental costs start from below €20 per day.
